Now Accepting EJU 2021 Session Proposals
TALS is accepting submissions for session proposals for this year's Equal Justice University conference. In addition to the requested topics below, submissions related to other topics are welcome, especially high-quality ethics and professional development CLE sessions. To kick start your thinking, TALS task force members and partners have requested training in the following areas:
TALS staff attorney Kirsten Jacobson joined Tennessee Bar Association President Michelle Greenway Sellers for a recent installment of the TBA Member Spotlight Series. Kirsten joined TALS in 2016 as an Equal Justice Works Fellow and now manages multiple programs at TALS, including the Cycles of Success program in partnership with all four Legal Services Corporation firms in Tennessee, and the TN Free Legal Answers online legal clinic. In the interview, Kirsten talks about her career, her work at TALS, and what access to justice means to her.
TALS helpline attorney Kent Halkett recently has published multiple articles about mental health in the legal profession. Kent advocates for addressing the shame and stigma associated with mental health in the legal profession and for incorporating mental health training in law schools as part of the academic curriculum.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services’ (TALS) will host its annual Equal Justice University for lawyers, advocates, social workers, and others September 21-23. This year’s conference will be online, and the theme, “Transforming Legal Services Together: Recipes for Recovery” reflects a focus on using what advocates have learned during the pandemic to adapt and strengthen Tennessee’s legal services delivery models.
