The Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services (TALS) will present Harrison D. McIver III with the Founder’s Award, an honor it established for the purpose of recognizing McIver’s extraordinary contributions to Tennessee’s access to justice community during his twenty-year tenure as Chair of Equal Justice University and tenure as CEO of Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS). The award will be presented on August 29, 2019, at the Leadership Luncheon, Embassy Suites Conference Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Tennessee's virtual legal clinic, TN Free Legal Answers, provides low-income Tennesseans access to legal advice from Tennessee licensed attorneys via email. TN Free Legal Answers had a very successful Pro Bono Month in October, with many highlights including the following:
Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) announced Cindy Ettingoff to be Chief Executive Officer beginning in December. As the CEO of MALS, Cindy will serve on the TALS Board of Directors. An active member of the access to justice community in Tennessee, Cindy has presented at TALS' Equal Justice University, currently serves on the Board of Directors of TALS' partner Community Legal Center, and has worked for MALS previously as the Managing Attorney in the Pro Bono Unit at MALS.

The Director of Legal Services oversees the Arts & Business Council’s cornerstone program: Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA). VLPA provides critical and necessary pro bono legal and business services to artists of all disciplines, as well as creative entrepreneurs and emerging nonprofit arts organizations in Tennessee. Broadly, services provided include drafting and reviewing contracts, protecting work with copyright and trademark, nonprofit formation, and resolving arts-related disputes. If you need free legal help in Tennessee, organizations across the state are working together to bring resources over the phone and online to celebrate innovation in legal services for this year's HELP4TN Day. While TALS and TALS' alliance members provide free legal help throughout the year, HELP4TN Day marks an annual celebration of the Tennessee Supreme Court's Access to Justice Commission and brings together volunteers from across the state to serve Tennesseans.
