CHATTANOOGA (June 28, 2013) – Legal Aid of East Tennessee hosted its Annual Pro Bono Night, Thursday evening at Bessie Smith Hall in Chattanooga. The event celebrated local attorneys who have donated time and legal services during the past year to aid those who otherwise could not afford an attorney. The top fifty who donated the most hours of service were recognized individually and presented with certificates of thanks.
Legal Aid of East Tennessee's (LAET) Emily O'Donnell has made local news for her work with fair housing. O'Donnell, who is an attorney at LAET's Chattanooga office, is assisting a Chattanooga Housing Authority resident facing eviction over damage done to his home by his wheelchair. The Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands Attorney Chay Sengkhounmany has contributed to the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law's 'Advocacy Stories'. See the article here. Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands released its fall People’s Law School class schedule today.
The People’s Law School is a free program that provides an overview of common civil legal issues that a person might face. Taught by Legal Aid Society attorneys and volunteer attorneys, the weekly, one-hour classes will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays at Wright Middle School, 180 McCall Street and on Thursdays at Cohn Learning Center, 4805 Park Avenue.
