TALS' aLEGALz Program Celebrates First Year

The Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services' (TALS) aLEGALz program celebrated its first full year of service this January. Launched January 14, 2013, the aLEGALz program is a civil legal information and referral toll-free line for low income Tennesseans. Tennesseans call 1-888-aLEGALz and leave a voicemail including information about their civil legal issue, their county of residence and other useful information. A licensed Tennessee attorney then returns their call, providing them with legal information relevant to their issue and refers them to agencies or services that might be able to assist them. In the first year, over aLEGALz has handled more than 2,500 calls from 94 of Tennessee's 95 counties. Click here to see the initial program announcement from the Tennessee Supreme Court.

The aLEGALz program is a project of TALS made possible through support from International Paper, the Tennessee Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission, the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization and AT&T.
