    Hiring: Equal Justice Works Disaster Resilience Attorney Fellow

    TALS is hiring an Equal Justice Works Disaster Resilience Attorney Fellow

     

    Required Qualifications:

    Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in Tennessee

    Demonstrate commitment to social justice, with a desire to increase access to justice for disaster survivors and achieve results

    Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

    Exceptional advocacy, interpersonal, and organizational skills

    An ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting to facilitate a coordinated community response and provide holistic services to clients

    Nashville, TN 37228: Reliably commute or planning to relocate to the Nashville area before starting work

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Previous legal services experience, including civil legal aid, law school clinics, and/or internships

    Prior disaster recovery legal experience

    Experience with delivering training and presentations

     

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

    Work on the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services’ disaster response helpline and general helpline

    Create a disaster response manual for the TALS disaster response helpline

    Create a disaster response manual to educate partners on best practices related to disaster response and resilience

    Become knowledgeable on best practices for disaster response and resilience and share this knowledge with community partners and clients

    Provide legal advice, referrals, and representation to underserved communities who are most in need or facing special barriers to accessing services before, during, and after a disaster

    Identify areas for policy change and reform related to disaster preparedness and resilience

    Engage in outreach and education activities, such as presenting CLE sessions and conducting presentations for partner organizations

    Work with community partners across the state to increase disaster preparedness and resilience

    Attend training and receive technical assistance from Equal Justice Work’s in-house disaster law expert

    Attend regular substantive and skills-based webinars throughout the Fellowship

    Attend monthly, virtual networking and collaboration sessions with other Disaster Resilience Fellows

    This position is a 12-month, full-time (40 hours per week) fellowship and it is NOT subject to renewal.
