Free Legal Clinics for Area Elderly and Low-Income Residents
Low income and elderly East Tennesseans have a new legal advocate on their side thanks to a law school fellowship program in Washington, D.C. Malika Noel has received a JD Distinguished Fellowship from American University’s Washington College of Law (WCL), and is serving in the Knoxville office of Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET).
On November 5, the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services (TALS) hosted a national call with states interested in implementing a site like Online TN Justice (www.onlinetnjustice.org), a web-based pro bono clinic for low-income Tennesseans.The call featured more than fifteen groups and more than twenty individuals who were interested in topics from stakeholder building to technology capabilities for hosting their own Online Justice Program.
