The Tennessee Supreme Court wants to make sure everyone, regardless of their financial abilities, has access to justice. In this ongoing effort, the court has produced an access to justice video, which will be used to educate the legal community and business leaders about the civil legal needs crisis in Tennessee. A Nashville Ledger newstory describes the important work that Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (a TALS' member agency) does for artists and musicians across Tennessee. The story gives an overview of their program and its history and describes the important pro bono legal and professional services that the agency coordinates.

The Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services (TALS) held its last business meeting of the 2013 calendar year on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Board members from across Tennessee braved the snowy conditions in Nashville to help the TALS staff begin closing out the 2013 business year and start planning for 2014.
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has appointed Tennessee Court of Appeals Judge Holly Kirby to the Tennessee Supreme Court. Judge Kirby will be replacing Justice Janet Holder who will be retiring at when her current term ends. See the state of Tennessee's press release on Kirby's appointment here.
The Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services (TALS) hosted Krista Hess, who represented Connecticut's Access to Justice Commission's Pro Bono Subcommittee. Mrs. Hess, Program Manager for the Connecticut Superior Court, received a grant from the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) to travel Tennessee to learn more about the virtual legal clinic Online Tennessee Justice (www.onlinetnjustice.org).
