People’s Law School is a weekly, one-hour class, taught by Legal Aid Society Staff and volunteers, that provides an overview of legal issues that a typical person may face. The classes started in February and will continue through April 11th, focusing on a different legal topic each week. Classes take place at the Cohn Learning Center, 4805 Park Avenue, from 6 to 7 p.m.

The upcoming April 4 class will cover social security options, including how to apply for and obtain social security retirement, disability, spouse and child benefits, Medicare health insurance and supplemental security income disability and old age benefits. The April 11 topic will review renters’ legal rights, how to assert those rights, what to look for in a lease, how to get a landlord to make repairs, how to get a security deposit back and other problems renters face.

The Legal Aid Society will offer the People’s Law School in the spring on Thursdays from May 28 to July 25.
