Legal Aid Honors Knoxville Attorneys
KNOXVILLE (July 23, 2013) – Legal Aid of East Tennessee hosted its 2013 Knoxville Pro Bono Celebration, Tuesday evening at The Square Room in Knoxville. The event honored local attorneys who have donated time and legal services during the past year to aid those who otherwise could not afford an attorney. Emcee for the evening was Ms. Lori Tucker, anchor for WATE 6 News in Knoxville.
The Hon. Gary R. Wade, Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court, gave welcoming remarks. Heidi A. Barcus, President of the Knoxville Bar Association, presented the KBA’s awards to attorneys who volunteered at least 25 hours of service through LAET’s Pro Bono Project. Cynthia Wyrick, President of the Tennessee Bar Association, also attended.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of three annual Pro Bono Project Awards. The Hon. Sharon G. Lee, Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court, recognized Ryan Gardner as the Donald F. Paine Law Student Volunteer of the Year. Richard L. Duncan was given the Pro Bono Advocacy Award for his donation of almost 100 hours of service. And Paine, Tarwater, and Bickers, LLP, was named the Law Firm of the Year.
