Immediate Attorney Position Available in Columbia Office as of 9/5/12
The Legal Aid Society has an immediate opening for an attorney in its Columbia office. Attorneys will handle a general civil practice. Practice areas include domestic violence, housing, consumer, elder law, health and benefits law. The Columbia office provides services to Giles, Hickman, Maury, Marshall, Lawrence, Lewis, Perry, and Wayne counties.
Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in public interest law, a commitment to high quality representation and a desire to handle cases that benefit individual clients as well as those impacting their communities. Must have ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; work with a team and independently; and use Microsoft Office software and databases. Spanish language, license to practice in Tennessee, some legal experience, residence or intent to reside in the office’s service area and a sense of humor are preferred. We will accept applications from new law graduates.
The Legal Aid Society has thirty attorneys in eight offices in Middle and East Tennessee. Its attorneys provide low-income people expert legal assistance at all levels of state and federal court. Its staff includes national authorities in the fields of domestic violence, housing, consumer law, federal income taxation, health advocacy, nonprofit group representation, social security and special education.
