LAET Hosts 2017 Pro Bono Celebration
KINGSPORT, TN – Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET) will host the annual Tri-Cities Celebration of Pro Bono Service Friday, October 13 at The Press Room, 300 Clinchfield Street in Kingsport. Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Roger A. Paige will join LAET to recognize attorney volunteer service in the Tri Cities. Chief Justice Jeffrey S. Bivins is also scheduled to attend.
The evening begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. with the awards presentation to follow. Justice Paige will offer brief remarks, and will recognize attorneys who have achieved the distinction "Attorneys for Justice" by providing more than 50 hours of volunteer legal service in their own communities. Sheri A. Fox, LAET Executive Director, will make a special presentation to Bristol attorney J. Wesley Edens, who is retiring from LAET’s Board of Directors after many years of service. Upper East Tennessee attorneys who participated in LAET’s Pro Bono Project will be recognized for donating time and skills to provide civil legal services to low-income and elderly residents, and victims of domestic violence. Awards to be given include “Access to Justice,” “Excellence in Pro Bono,” and “Above & Beyond.” A highlight of the evening will be to announce and induct the inaugural member into the Tri-Cities Pro Bono Hall of Fame.
