Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services

The Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services (TALS), a statewide non-profit alliance of low-income civil legal service providers, is seeking a dedicated, experienced and creative individual to serve as its next executive director.  The executive director leads all aspects of the agency’s work and creates a successful work environment to deliver the TALS mission. TALS is an alliance of the federally-funded legal aid programs, independent providers of civil legal services, and supporting agencies in Tennessee. TALS is committed to increasing equal access to the judicial system across Tennessee and seeks to build partnerships to support the delivery of effective civil legal services for low-income and elderly Tennesseans.

 

Responsibilities

 

  1. Works closely with the Board of Directors to maintain, evaluate, and set priorities for  agency goals, programs, and initiatives;
  2. Represents TALS and Tennessee’s access to justice community in a professional, accurate, and appropriate manner;
  3. Advocates for TALS and Tennessee’s access to justice community regarding programmatic promotion, resource development, and structural support;
  4. Directs the TALS staff with initiatives as directed by the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors;
  5. Encourages and maintains a productive, fair, and vital work environment;
  6. Develops annual budget and directs all agency fundraising initiatives;
  7. Monitors implementation of budget and takes steps to ensure overall financial health of the organization;
  8. Coordinates with staff, Board of Directors, and program leaders across state on annual conference and other trainings;
  9. Ensures that all TALS projects and programs are appropriately staffed and that clear leadership is established;
  10. Represents TALS in partnership discussions and determines extent of TALS involvement in outside partnerships;
  11. Works with legislative team to maintain TALS’ successful monitoring efforts at the General Assembly;
  12. Ensures that TALS continually evaluates its strategic position and direction.

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

  1. Significant experience in non-profit or small business leadership, management, and budgeting;
  2. Experience working in and familiarity with the civil justice system;
  3. Ability to lead a collaborative staff team;
  4. Comfort with public speaking;
  5. Ablility to manage grant funds and ensure compliance;
  6. Passion for assisting those in need and a demonstrated commitment to making a difference in the lives of low-income persons and the elderly.

 

Compensation

 

TALS offers excellent benefits and a small office environment where individual initiative, cooperative teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving are highly valued. 

 

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Some state, regional, and national travel expected.
