LAS-Columbia Seeks Full Time Attorney

Legal Aid Society has an immediate openings for an attorney in its Columbia office. The position will focus on health and public benefits law. The Nashville position will also focus on elder law. Practice in other areas of law, including domestic violence, housing, consumer, special education, and elder law may be necessary to provide holistic representation or meet the needs of the offices. Successful applicants will participate in administrative advocacy and community education for clients in accordance with program guidelines and priorities and the Code of Professional Responsibility.

The Columbia office serves Giles, Hickman, Maury, Marshall, Lawrence, Lewis Perry, and Wayne counties. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in public interest law, specifically health and public benefits law, a commitment to high quality representation and a desire to handle cases that benefit individual clients as well as those impacting their communities. Admitted to practice in Tennessee or willing to take first available bar examination. Must have ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; work with a team and independently; use Microsoft Office software and Legal Files database. Must have driver’s license and access to transportation. Spanish language, residence or intent to reside in the office’s service area and a sense of humor are preferred.

Legal Aid Society has thirty attorneys in eight offices in Middle and East Tennessee. Its attorneys provide low-income people expert legal assistance at all levels of state and federal court. Its staff includes national authorities in the fields of domestic violence, housing, consumer law, federal income taxation, health advocacy, nonprofit group representation, social security and special education.
