Local Lawyers Give Gift of Free Legal Advice the Christmas

Local lawyers give the gift of free legal advice this Christmas.
The Legal Aid of East Tennessee put up its first probono tree this year.
Judges put cases of people from our area who need legal help on the tree.
They include everything from wills and powers of attorney to land lord tenant and consumer issues.
Then attorneys chose a case to take on for free.
Charlie McDaniel, Legal Aid of East Tennessee Probono Project Director, "In Chattanooga we're lucky to have a bar that's always looking for opportunities to give back to the community and part of my job is to give them those opportunities and this is just one way that we can do that."
McDaniel says it's a big help for people who couldn't afford legal advice otherwise.
Legal Aid of East Tennessee has been working to make sure elderly, abused and low income people get equal justice for 40 years.
It serves 26 counties from Chattanooga to Johnson City.
